Maps have stopped showing for visitors was created by Chris Jarvis
Hello.
Our maps have stopped showing for visitors on our events pages.
Strangely I can still see them on my computer and my phone but we have received a few emails and phone calls saying the maps stopped working recently.
They are also not showing for 3 of my colleagues and I have managed to capture a screenshot.
Is there a setting a need to change or make and is this happening for anyone else?
My colleague was using Chrome whereas I use Firefox but other colleagues also use Firefox and they aren't showing for them either with the same message as shown in the image
Thanks for any help or advice

Thanks Tuan
Sorry I missed adding that info originally - my apologies.
Here is an example of one course url: strengthandconditioning.org/level-01-cou...el-1-course-feb-2026
This is the overall all events page and you can click any of the events shown to see: strengthandconditioning.org/level-01-course-dates
On my pc the maps are working and showing but not for others.
Please let me know if you need anything further from my side and thank you as always.

Hi Chris
I just looked at it and it worked for me, too. So I have no clue what's wrong here. Maybe you can ask them to check browser console to see if there are any error messages displayed there?

Thanks Tuan
We just checked the browser console of a colleague who can't see the maps and this error is showing for them.
As of February 21st, 2024, google.maps.Marker is deprecated. Please use google.maps.marker.AdvancedMarkerElement instead. At this time, google.maps.Marker is not scheduled to be discontinued, but google.maps.marker.AdvancedMarkerElement is recommended over google.maps.Marker. While google.maps.Marker will continue to receive bug fixes for any major regressions, existing bugs in google.maps.Marker will not be addressed. At least 12 months notice will be given before support is discontinued. Please see developers.google.com/maps/deprecations for additional details and developers.google.com/maps/documentation...ed-markers/migration for the migration guide.
Does this help to get it working for any visitors of our site maybe?

I will check that and update code to use new API. However, they haven't discontinued it, so it should still work. No clue why it works for some users but not others
Maybe you can switch to use OpenStreetMap for the time being ?

That does it!
Great idea and nice and simple too.
I don't have any huge reason to use Google Maps and OpenStreetMap worked instantly for us all.
My colleagues can see the maps again straight away so hoping everyone can now.
That was easy in the end wasn't it?
Thanks for the suggestion and the right result
I love that approach
