Can I add columns like Comments in the table view of the partipicants in the backend?

Yes, you can. Just edit the custom fields you want to show there, set Show On Registrants Management to Yes and the field will be displayed on Registrants Management

It only works for certain field type like Select, Radio, Checkboxes. Please edit the field, set Filterable to Yes and you should see it as filter
