Is there any special way to indicate that an event is virtual or am I just adding "Virtual" as a location where it asks where the event is taking place? (I will obviously need to disable the map view on the event pages)
Yes. You can add Virtual as location. If you don't want the map to be displayed, just set coordinates of the location to 0.000000,0.000000 and map won't be displayed
