Duplicate Content Warning - SEM Rush Audit was created by nate covington
Hi,
I'm getting warnings from Google about my child events repeating and having 85%+ identical content

Examples:
greenshireinstitute.org/affirmation-yoga-mondays-01-02-2023
greenshireinstitute.org/affirmation-yoga-mondays-01-01-2024

Is there a good solution for this?  Not sure if it is feasible to have a canonical URL that points back to the "most recent child" - I was originally going to say we should canonical URL back to the original "parent" item but that won't work if the site is set to hide past events.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks!
-Nate

We do not have that option in the extension at the moment. One of the option you can try is going to Events Booking -> Configuration, set Show Children Events In Parent Event Detail Page config option to Yes

Then children events will be displayed under parent event details page to prevent duplicate pages

But if you have too many children events, the page could become too long and won't work

I will see if I can come up with canonical solution

I checked on the Configuration -> Show Children Events in Parent Event Detail Page = Yes

And it seems to work EXCEPT it doesn't keep the repeating events in my Upcoming Event modules. For some reason it hides them. So in my example, an event that repeats weekly and maybe shows 2 or 3 times in the Upcoming Events module is now only going to show up once. People won't realize it's a repeating event until they click into it fully.

Is it possible to keep the children events in the module and just have them link back to the parent event?

That's how it works. When you turn on that config option, the system will only display the next upcoming event on the module. Then when user click on that event, on event details page, he will see all children events there

Hi Tuan,

I found something else and I'm not sure if it's a bug or not, if you could please take a look:
greenshireinstitute.org/search/newest-first?areas [0]=eb_search&searchphrase=all&searchword=astrology

In the site search, it's showing the separate repeating events, I would have assumed the search would only show the one result and have all of the repeating events on the parent, like elsewhere?

Thanks!

I also noticed that past events were showing up in the search results, I had to unpublish those events, even though I have it set to hide past events in the EB configuration...

It could related to the active menu item when search is performed. Could you please submit a support ticket sending us:

1. Super admin account

2. Link to the page which we can search events and see this issue

I will check to see why the issue happens and get it sorted

Regards,

Tuan
