Past events showing up on website

Hello,
I've attached a photo with the issue.
I've been having problems with past events showing up in the search function on our website. They do NOT appear in the calendar though.
The only way I can fix it for now is to unpublish events after the event is finished.
I have looked through the General Settings for event booking and the "Hide past Events" function is turned on.
We started having the problem around the time of the version 4 update. As far as I know, no other settings had been changed to cause this to happen.
Any help would be appreciated!
