Mailchimp groups

I have a question about the Mailchimp integration. If a user is not already in my Mailchimp audience, they are added to the list and the group I have selected with no issue. However if they are already in the audience, they are not being added to the group?

Are you saying that existing Mailchimp subscriber is not added to configured group? I don't remember if I tested that case but from the code, both existing member and new member should be added to configured groups

Yes, but I think I have narrowed it down a bit more:

If not in audience - added successfully to both audience and desired group
If in audience, but not already in any groups - added successfully to desired group
If in audience and already in a different group - not added successfully to desired group
