Can you tell if the confirmation email is send when you ad a registrant through the back end?

I don't believe it is, if you add a backend registration no confirmations go out, at least that I can tell.
That's good and bad... good if you are doing maintaince and don't need for other people to see that.
Otherwise, it's easier to add the registrant from the front end... as long as you are not submitting payment other than offline.

I think you are right. I did a test and it did not send any emails.
Indeed it is good and bad. Thinking about this there should be an option YES or NO sending the configured emails when you register someone through the back-end. And as you said, the sending of th e-mails can only be done for off-line payments (unless the registrant can make payment in the front-end after registration in the back-end (makes it even more complex).
An other extra option could be, if you want to send an email, that you can choose to send the configured emails or make a custom one for this registration.

Right now, when you add registrants manually from back-end, there is no email sent to registrants. I will add this feature to my todo list and implement it to the next version .
