When the prevent-duplicate-registration option is enabled in the config, and then when a user already registered tries to register again, the system gives the message something like "This event doesn't exist or we are no longer accept registration for this event" .
Neither of the or-statement is true in this case. So, it would be better if it could give a message like "You are already registered for this event." .

That's strange to me. The message You are already registered for this event should be displayed as you said
If it is not, then there is something wrong.Could you please submit a support ticket sending us:
- Super admin account of the site
- A registrant account which registered for that event
- Link to that event page
We are going to check to see what's wrong and get it sorted
