Is it possible to check in people from the registrants list from the details page of an event?

No, it's not possible. If you want to checkin registrants, you will need to access to Registrants Management Page

Or if you have an Android Mobile, consider using EB Check In app for checking registrants. It's much faster method for checking in eventbookingdoc.joomservices.com/advance...using-eb-checkin-app
