Continue to show past events

I would like to continue to show past events using the Upcoming Events-Timeline Layout in the Main Menu for the Events page. Under Configuration I have "Hide past events" set to No, but the events still will not show and I get only the message, "There are no up-coming events" on the Events page.

Is there another setting required to do this? I see I can create an archive

If you want to show past events, you will need to use Category Timeline Layout. If you use upcoming events timeline layout, past events will always be hided (that's why it's called upcoming events)

So there is no way to display events using the Upcoming Events-Timeline layout with each event displaying the message, "We are no longer accepting registrations" once that event is over?

No, it's not possible. As mentioned, it's upcoming events, so it meant only upcoming events (events which have event date greater than current date) will be displayed
