Parent Events & Categories Default Layout was created by daniel white
Hi,
I am trying to work out the best solution for being able to create an event with additional dates where the parent event itself has no date to choose from, as I want to use the hide past events option but still keep the main event with in the category layout.
I did try creating a page with the menu item type as categories default layout, but I found that you don't get the same options and look as if you use category default layout, where you can display a larger image, description and buttons. The problem is using category default layout with the hide past event option, means that you will lose any parent event that has it's event date any earlier than the additional dates. Also it is much more convenient to use an event and add additional dates when needed then to add new events every time.
I have tried a few workarounds, firstly I have put the parent event date as 2099-12-31 to keep it as a to be confirmed date, so that it always stays in category view. However in the registration type field, you have to set the registration type to disable registration, so that you cannot register to this event, from this you have to then save the event and then go into all the event children that have just populated and re allow registration for each one. With the problem being that if you change the main parent event and save again, you have to go back and re-enable registration on all the children events.
Is there something I am overlooking for these options or is it possible in future releases to be able to set up a parent event that can have different properties from the children (additional dates) where the parent doesn't have to be an event you can register to but still manages to remain in the page regardless of date, or if there is an extra toggle button that can be added to the additional dates so that you can change registration status there.
Thanks

Hi
The question is you only want to display parent event on the list but not children event?
If so, maybe try to go to Events Booking -> Configuration, set Show children events date under parent events config option to Yes, then check to see whether it helps solve the issue?
If not, try upcoming events default layout menu option, too

I guess I didn't really explain too well, but in essence I want to be able to create a parent event with children events ( additional dates) and have a few more options in the children events, so I can make it so that you can register to them and not the parent event. At the moment the parent event controls all the registration and you have to go into each child individually to change the registration, but if you then change the parent event again it then resets the registration on all the children events.
I ideally want to have the parent event there but have the option for it not to be registered or show any details and that it is just classed as a future event, so that it doesn't disappear because of the hide past event feature. it makes it easier to edit and add future additional dates if it is there.
Thanks,
