Set registration status based on custom field?

Is it possible to set the registration status based on the selection from a custom field?

For example, I have a series of free events on the website. They have a maximum of 20 spaces. Priority is given to those who can answer Yes to two radio questions. Those who answer No can still attend, but they should be wait-listed behind the first group.

So is it possible to have it set as:

1- Answer yes to custom questions, status set as "Registered"
2- Answer no to custom questions, status set as "Pending"

If this isn't possible, or is overly complicated, another way to work it would be to have ALL registrants set as pending, and then manually approve those who answered yes. Is that a possibility?

Unfortunately, it is not possible/ not supported. If you want to have it works like this, you will have to customize the code

BTW, is your events free or paid events? If it is paid events, the status is always active after registrants complete payment, so if you want it to be pending, you will need to customize code of payment plugin, too
