Registrant login error was created by Patrick Foley
I have setup a test registrant in my site and everything is good until I try to login for an event, when I get the message 'You can't access the private section of this site.' Can anyone help with this?

Might be something wrong with permission settings on your site. Could you please check and let me know what user group the registrant was added to?
Maybe you can submit a support ticket sending us super admin account of your site, tell us what registrant is having this issue
I will then check to see why it happens and get it sorted
Regards,
Tuan

User is marked as registered and activated in events booking control panel but i have noticed not activated in Joomla users management. Will research more and get back to you. Do registrants need any permissions for com_eventsbooking component?

No, registrants doesn't need any permission. If the account not being activated, maybe it is because they haven't clicked on activation link? Or you configured your site to require admin approve user account manually?
Go to Users -> Manager, click on Options button in the toolbar. There is a setting called Account Activation, set it to Self or None, then try to register again to see whether the issue sorted?

Tuan

Thanks for this - I have changed the activation setting to Self and am sure this is will help with new users. All new registrants go into Registered group. I have tested my test login and still receive the message - will submit a support ticket.

I checked and figured out the reason of the error. Because of wrong permission settings - you set Site Login permission for public group Denied (it is controlled by Joomla - go to System - Global Configuration to change it), all users belong to Registered group could not login
I changed the permission settings:
1. Set Site Login permission for Public group to Inheritted
2. Set Site Login permission for Registered group to Allowed
Users can login now. Please go to your site to check it and confirm
