Waitlist question was created by damian
I'm using waitlist .. all tickets have sold out.
I'm going to increase the number of tickets available, so some on waitlist will be able to get a seat.

Sorry to ask, but I just want to know what happens when I add 5 tickets to the event. Based on the email message, they will get a link to book a ticket, so doesn't that mean that if someone comes along between the email getting sent out AND them booking, someone else could take the place they have put themselves on the waitlist for?

Yes, that is the same issue I have run into is that you gamble with someone else taking the seat. We usually just call the person and let them know first and make sure they still want the seat.

My work around for now has been to create a free ticket for "wait list" with unlimited seats. Then When I need to move someone from the wait list to a seat, I just change the ticket of the wait list to "0" and then change them to a ticket. This works ok if you lockout registration based upon the date cutoff. Then you can add tickets and move people to the seat. I am using the tickets feature which the wait list doesn't work yet.

The wait list would be ideal if it would send out an email with a link to the next person on the list with two sections "accept" or "decline" . If they accept then will be taken to the site to pay and secure their seat. If they don;t accept within a preset time period then it will go to the next person. If they decline then it would also go to the next person on the list. I will suggest this to Tuan.

There *is* a way that you could open up 5 seats and only allow waiting list members to register:
  • add an EVENT PASSWORD that you communicate only to the waiting list members.

How do (and can?) waiting list members register for an event via the frontend? Are they sent a link via the system when more space is added or only when someone cancels (per the tool-tip in Emails & Messages: Registrant waitinglist notification email body: The email message sent to waiting list users when someone cancel registration so that they will know and register for the event (to replace the cancelled registrant)). I haven't had to really use the waiting list feature yet... so I'm questioning now how it all works.

but that then means there is no waitlist .. and you sort of want the waitlist when the event is full.

True. Didn't think about the fact that it would disable the waitlist for other registrants...
