Events order?

I am assuming I am missing something obvious but maybe not

I am using the table view and the category (short description) view to show my events by category. The problem I am having is that the events are ordered by how they were entered and I need them ordered by date (soonest event first) .

How do I do this? I am assuming that I have just set something up wrong.
