Increase width and heig of textarea custom fields

For events bookings a custom field of type textarea appears as a single row textbox which is not convenient if you want to enter lot of lines of text . I would like to user to be able to enter 10 lines of text without needing to scroll. Is there a way to specify the width and height of the field?
