Coupons

Is there a way of selling traditional coupons that people can buy as gifts to use on the website?
I know you can create coupon codes in the system, print them on coupons and sell them, but what keeps them from passing that code on to a friend? We can't use the feature of tying a code to a specific member because we don't use the member feature. Plus the person who buys the coupon might be giving it as a gift and not using it themselves.

Has anyone sold printed discount coupons (like gift cards) to use with the EB system? Is this even possible?

I think if someone by that gift containing the coupon code, they can simply give that coupon code to his friend (via email or even phone call)

Not sure what's the problem with it or how you expect it to work?

The problem is that they CAN give the code to their friend. I'm looking for something like a gift card.

If someone purchases a $10 gift card that has a coupon code, then they can go to the website, use it, and get their $10 off the total cost. I want to stop them from going back and using that $10 coupon code a second or third time. If they give me $10 to buy the card, and use it 3 times, then that card cost me $30. If they give that code to their friends who use it, then it cost me more.

I guess I'm asking if a coupon code can be used only once and then automatically turned off? I can't rely on manually turning the code off myself as I won't always know the minute it is used.

Or is there another way to be able to sell gift cards?

Maybe you can set Times of the coupon code to 1. By doing that, the coupon code can only be used for one time

I will think about gift coupon type which will work like you said

However, I am afraid of that feature won't be available soon. I think we can have it available in the extension in about 2 months or so

For now I will see what I can do with setting the coupon Times to 1.

Will this have a diminishing amount concept, i.e. instead of expiring it is used until available amount equals zero, like a true gift card?

Yes. With the new coupon option, coupon can be used until the remaining discount amount become zezon (like gift card or voucher concept)
