Cannot edit event

I have an event, I wanted customers able to place half down as deposit. In reviewing the form, I see deposit is % and not $. I tried to change but the event will not save if when I try to make changes. Any reason why?
The deposit percentage was doubling the price not making it half.... Can you help?

[strike]Here are some (hopefully all????) of the settings that I know if that might trigger a "registration closed" message.

In the EVENT itself:

• [strike]CUT-OFF DATE: Your cut-off date looks okay on the second event listed, so I don't think it is that.[[/strike]/li]
  
• [strike]EVENT CAPACITY: Check your event capacity and make sure that you haven't already exceeded your max number of registrants, or make sure that the value is set to 0 if capacity is unlimited[/strike].
• [strike]REGISTRATION TYPE: Make sure that you don't have this set to DISABLE REGISTRATION[/strike]
• [strike]REGISTRATION ACCESS: Make sure that you have this set to the minimum Joomla group level that you want to be able to register (eg. Public for everyone, Registered for only users that are logged in, etc.)[/strike]
