1. I fully understand your concept of the group pricing
2. I need a work around.. in this scenerio the registration is 200 BUT Registrants 1-3 are INCLUDED.. SO if the registrant only registers 1person or 2 or 3 the price is still 200...
3. anyone registrants after 3 it is a set price of 35.00 and most people are registering up to 50 . so 4-50 is a set price of 35...
4. I tried cleverly (not successful) to use a fee field in the registration form to establish the 200... and made the basic registration 0.00 and my thoughts were that it would be free until the fee field is checked and then in the group column for priciing i started with registrant 4 = 35 and any member after the same..

Have you tried playing around with "Fixed Group Price"?
Go to YourEvent->Advanced Settings: Set Fixed group price to 200
[Edit] Never mind. Its late here, I didn't fully read #3. :S

If you need to then charge a base rate for the first 3 registrations, include a custom radio button field with just 1 item, set to default, and a fee attached to the item.
For the situation where there are 2 people included and the rest are charged a fee, just reduce the above numbers 3->2 and 4->3.
I can record and post a video of all the settings if this isn’t clear enough.

That would not work properly. The idea is:
- First two registrants are free
- When Number Registrants is 3, the total price is 35, so the rate would have to be 35/4
- When Number Registrants is 4, the total price is 70, so the rate would have to be 70/4
- When Number Registrants is 5, the total price is 105, so the rate would be 105/5 and so on
You would have to define the rate up to the number you want (for example, up to 10). It's still not easy to handle this case at the moment
