Bug (or missing feature) in Waiting list was created by Tim Stöhr
Hey Tuan, there is a bug in the waiting list notifications.

The waiting list notifications are getting sent out even if the event is already closed (Last registration date has passed). How do I get the waiting list feature not to send out anything if the event is already closed if an event organisor cancels somebody?

Thanks

Tim

I haven't thought about that case, might be a bug. However, I am not sure why you cancel a person when the event is already started/processed?

Tuan he doesn't.

He has an event running in 1 weeks time. He has set the event up with a registration cutoff of 2 weeks before the event. Someone cancels 10 days before the event, so there is now a space which someone on the waiting list can fill, so the waiting list email is sent. Haven't tested what happens but I suspect they may be unable to register as after the cutoff.

Its another special case config setting! There are two reasons to use a cutoff:

1. You need to download your entrant list and do things with it - print name badges etc. You want a week to do that. In that case you may not want a late registration. If you have no web access at your event this may also be the case as you don't want a last minute cancellation and a waiting list person to then fill it.

2. You want to 'encourage' people to sign up earlier to create a bit of a marketting effect where people see spaces filling up and therefore join in. Perhaps it avoids people waiting for the weather to see if its going to be OK etc. In that case if your event is over-subscribed it seems sensible to open up the place that has become available.

It either needs to have a config setting for the scenario or it needs when a cancellation occurs in the admin side after the the cutoff to then ask if the event should be re-opened for registration and sent to waiting list? That works well for admin side but not for entrants to self cancel.

Hi Tuan,

As Calum says, the waiting list email thingy is not checking if the cut-off date has passed. It sends regardless. The users on the waiting lsit that have received the email then goes to the event and the event is blocked because of the cut-off date.

It can create a lot of hassle and is one more email that can land in the spam bin of the email servers (thus augmenting your spam rating)... What code do I have to add where? :)
