Using state code instead of full name

I notice that the "States" widget on the admin dashboard has all sorts of information about state two and three digit codes. I was wondering whether it was possible to use one of these other options for the state field.

We actually tried changing state to a dropdown box with the two letter codes entered ourselves (partly to achieve a custom ordering), but this change did not seem to take hold. Suggestions?

That's strange requirement. Most other customers need to use full state name, so I had to update the code to make it uses state name instead of the state code

If you want to use state code instead of using name, I think the only way is that you go to Events Booking => States, edit state and change the name of it to be the same with the code

I agree, it's slightly strange I think it has to do with interfacing with another piece of software. If I go about changing the state names, is there any way to change the order as well? As I said, we actually attempted to make the state field a custom select box, with two letter codes, but were unable to.
