Custom fields and multiple categories was created by Roger
Hello
I'm trying to set up custom fields to different categories of events. The configuration setting is set to yes so that custom fields are attached to categories instead of events.
There are different categories of events. The parent category is "Kurse", then there are different subcategories like "Nothilfe-Kurs", "Samariter-Kurs" etc. Then there is a special kind of an event. It is called "eNothelfer", it is a subcategory of "Nothilfe-Kurs" and therefore a subsub category of "Kurse". See the picture.
I then define the different events. Some of them are assigned to three categories. First to the parent "Kurse", then "Nothilfe-Kurs" and as the third one "eNothelfer". "eNothelfer" is a special kind of "nothilfe-Kurs". See picture
The category "eNothelfer" has custom fields, that all the others don't have. Because of that I assigned the custom field to the "eNothelfer" category. See picture.
This is the setup. I now try to figure out where the new custom field "MeinTest" is actually shown. Well with this setup it is shown nowhere. I did some tests and I found out that I have to remove all the categories from the event except the "eNothelfer" in all other cases the field is not shown. This is no option since then the menu items don't really work anymore for the different types of the events. Menu item for "Nothilfe-Kurs and its subcategory "eNothelfer", one for "Samariter-Kurs" etc.
Am I doing something wrong here or am I not getting the idea of how this is supposed to work? Could you please advice?
Thanks
Roger

Hello
It came another idea to mind for another test. I assigned the three categories to the custom field. Maybe the assignment to the category works some kind of like an AND operator. So only the events that are in the three categories will show the field. This was the guess. See picture
Well this solved the problem for the "Nothelfer" See picture
The custom field is shown ok. That would be great. BUT...
For all the other events the custom field is also shown. So it can't be some kind of an AND operator.
I think custom fields should be shown in the category they are used for, no matter what other categories there are for the events (assigned to multiple categories).
Do I have some kind of a special requirement or is this not working according to the plan?
Thanks for your advise

Hi Roger
I don't have enough time to read your post right now. However, there is one key thing you should understand to help you setup it in a correct way :
1. Each event has a main category. Only the main category of the event will have affect the custom fields displaying on registration form for that event
2. If a custom field is assigned to main category of an event, it will be showed for registration form of that event
3. If a custom field is just assigned to Additional categories of an event, it won't be displayed on registration form of that event

Hi Tuan
Up to now I had selected the parent category as main category. I now changed it, so that the sub sub category "eNothelfer" is the main category and the other two the additional categories. Like that it seems to work fine.
Thanks a lot

I will update you if I decide to change something related to this feature in the system
