Resolved - Simply had events dated for years beyond the current.

I've tried the mod to categories.php, although I believe that sorted views of categories based upon most recent sub-set of events. That info was found in post #20146 here.
I also tried toggling the value under Configuration - Themes - Order Events By
Can't seem to resolve.
