We have implemented a custom fee field for our events and it works well with individual registration.
We set up dropdowns with three types of tickets: type A :cost $20, type B : cost $15 and type C: cost $0. The basic cost of the event is $20, so we set the value of type A ticket is +0,the value of type B is -5 , the value of type C is -20 . And it works well with individual registration.
However, it does not work with group registration. When users purchase 3 tickets of type B - it shows the total is $55 ( $3*20 - $5 ). It's wrong since it should be 3x15 = 45.
