Waiting list not automatic? was created by bfta
If the waiting list is used, if there is a cancellation, the user on the waiting list is not moved into the event. Instead there is a free space which allows someone not on the waiting list to register. Is this correct?
It would seem as if allowing users to cancel their own booking is not a good idea as it allows people not on the waiting list to get in an event before someone on the waiting list!

Hi
You are correct. Right now, it is not automatic. The reason is that the events are not only free events but also contains paid events.
If an event is paid event, users cannot be moved automatically from waiting list into registrants because if we do so, this user won't have to make payment to attend event ?
So the idea of waiting list is that when someone cancel their registration, admin can email one of registrants in waiting list and he can access to the site to register for the event again .
In the future, maybe I will allows admin to move a registrants from waiting list to become registrants. However, admin still need to do it manually.
Hope my answers/explanation is clear to you .
Regards,
Tuan

Hi Tuan,
Yes that's clear, thanks. For paid events i understand. It would be great for me if it was automatic for free events

Hi,
I would like to suggest a slightly different feature for automating waiting lists.
It would help greatly to send notification emails to all people on a waiting list for a specific event should a vacancy becomes available for that event. This way, it doesn't matter if it's a free or paid event. Who ever is the first one - wins! This will also eleminate a need for an administrator to do anything manually.
I hope you can release this feature soon.
Cheers.
