Hello,

I have been recently asked if it is possible to include a qr code on booking confirmation screen and email which includes bank tranfser data (target bank account, amount, purpose of transfer. Thatway users can directly scan the qr-code with the banking app on their smartphone and do the transfer very easy (on most imporabtly without typos, etc.).

Thanks in advance,

Sascha

Hi Sascha

I guess the QRCODE would depend on the bank you are using to receive payment. Does your bank provides any details information about it? If there is some kind of integration document, I could try to look at it to see if it could be developed and give you quotation

Regards,

Tuan

Hello Tuan,

according to my research, there is an established QR standard for SEPA transfers:

- EPC QR (also known as “SEPA QR”): defined by the European Payments Council in document EPC069-12 (Guidelines to enable mobile payments via SEPA Credit Transfer).
- In Germany: GiroCode from the German Banking Industry Committee – a compatible profile of the EPC standard that is widely used in banking apps.

I would stick to the QR-code spec EPC QR since the specification is more general (GiroCode being a sub-standard) and worked with my banking app in germany, while scanning the qr code from the linked PDF. See detailed specification in PDF linked below.

Sources:

EPC QR (EPC069-12 “Quick Response Code: Guidelines to Enable SEPA Credit Transfers”)
www.europeanpaymentscouncil.eu/sites/def...%20of%20an%20SCT.pdf

Data in QR-Code:

- Payment type: SEPA Credit Transfer (SCT)
- Recipient name (max. 70 characters)
- IBAN (without spaces)
- BIC (optional in newer versions)
- Amount in EUR (optional; then the payer enters it themselves)
- Purpose code (optional)
- Purpose code: either structured (ISO 11649 “RF...” reference) or unstructured (free text, max. 140 characters)
- Optional additional information for the recipient

Notes on creation

- Encoding: UTF‑8, QR Code Model 2, error correction M or higher.
- Good scannability: on paper at least approx. 25×25 mm, quiet zone (margin) ≥ 4 modules.
- IBAN/BIC in capital letters, no spaces.
- Fill in either structured OR unstructured purpose of payment, not both.
- If you omit the amount, payers can enter it in the app.
