I’m happy to announce the release of
Events Booking version 5.6.1! Below are the changes/improvements in this release:
1. Technical Improvements
This is the main focus of this release. We spent time to modernize code of the extension to make sure it follow best practices, continue working well with future releases of the Joomla and easier to extend for future development.
- Refactor code handle registration process to make it more modular, easier to maintain.
- Convert all modules to use modern service structure .
- Convert javascript code in the extension to use modern ES 6 syntax.
2. Allow Showing Count Down On Event Details Page
You can now show a beautiful count down on event details page to show count down from current time to Event Date (or Registration Deadline). If you would like to use this feature, go to Events Booking Configuration, Themes tab, set Enable Countdown to Yes and configured related parameters from there,
3. Improve PayPal Payment Plugin
The os_paypal payment plugin comes with Events Booking out of the box now uses PayPal Rest API to process refund for the registration instead of the old legacy/classic NVP API. If you want to process refund for registration using PayPal payment method, follow instructions at
developer.paypal.com/api/rest/#link-getclientidandclientsecret
to get Client ID, Client Secret of your PayPal account and enter it into os_paypal payment plugin parameters and refund will be possible.
4. Change To Events Booking - AcyMailing Plugin
The plugin
Events Booking - AcyMailing has a parameter allow choosing a custom field which allow users to choose whether they want to subscribe to newsletter. This parameter is not needed because it is covered in Show Newsletter Checkbox config option
GDPR support
, thus it is removed to make it less confusing.
5. Improve Events Booking - Google Structured Data Plugin
Added parameter to allow choosing default organizer type in the plugin. The organizer type can be overridden inside each event if needed. In earlier version, Organizer type is always hard coded to
Person, but it could also be
Organization
6. New Payment Plugins Introduced
We developed new payment plugins to allow you to use Events Booking with new payment gateways if needed:
- EB PayPal Expanded Checkout

: This is basically an upgrade for existing EB PayPal Standard Checkout payment plugin. PayPal Standard Checkout still works well, but PayPal recommends users to update to their new checkout option called PayPal Expanded Checkout. When it is needed, you can update.
