Documents Seller problem

We're currently working with Documents Seller 3.0 on our website, it's not the latest version but worked correctly until now.. Since a couple of days, whenever we receive an order on our website, and want to manually set the "order status" in the back-end to "published" we receive an HTTP 500 error. This means that the delivery of the ordered product can not take place through the plugin and automatic mails that are sent.

We normally receive an email whenever somebody places an order, that's also not the case anymore.

It looks like that orders done through Paypal, also suffer from the same problem.

Is this a known issue? Is there a solution?
We contacted our website host, and they are not able to find anything in the website logs that would cause this problem.
