daily limits

I did a quick search and didn't find anything on this. Just wondering if there is a way to have a daily limit of a product. We will be selling permits, but only want to allow 10 permits per day to be sold, I thought perhaps I could set the stock to 10, then create a cron job that resets the inventory to 10 at midnight, but was wondering if there was a more straightforward way of doing that.
