Seeking some collective wisdom here on how to design a sales listing.
A charity bike group are selling t shirts for a ride. Apart from the obvious sizes which are done as options, there is an additional option of having your name embroidered on the shirt.
1. Put options in checkboxes and additional option for 1 or 2 embroidered so cost is calculated collectively
2. Create two separate items for sale. One for no name and another for embroidered names.
3. If people buy names, they include in Comments box on order. Is there a better and clearer way of doing this?
4. If anyone has an example shop that has done this sort of thing, I would love a link to look at the structure.
Cheers,
Ric

In this case, you should use 2 option type:
1. Drop down list option for selecting sizes.
2. A Text box option to enter the name that they want to have on the shirt.
Does it work for you?

Thanks for suggestions. Have tried to do this by adding a new Option called Names and then a field for Name 1 and Name 2. This is for when a couple order 2 shirts for themselves. Different sizes and different names on the one order.
I then went to the Product listing and added the name option and priced it at $5 per name.
It doesn't appear to give me the option to describe the option as it is showing $5 per a character whereas should be per name.
If I order 2 shirts of different sizes, I only have the option to enter one name and cart is only calculating price for one name too.
Cheers,
Ric

That's correct. Currently, EShop only support the fee for Text option type based on number of characters. If you wan to have the fixed fee not depend on number of characters, then it requires to customize to EShop.
Please submit a ticket to EShop category if you need that.

I find this rather odd that eShop arbitrarily determines what the text option is to be used for in basing it on number of characters.
What if it's a beanie and people are paying extra for a pom pom? Or perhaps the lettering is to be gold leaf, or any one of a myriad of possibilities. It is effectively just restricted to number of letters at present.
I think the nature of the text should be a part of the option instead of just number of letters.
I will have to go around this another way.
Cheers,
Ric

When you say that Virtuemart is free, it is worth remembering that there is nothing in this life for free. There is always a cost somewhere. With components such as the ones sold by OS Solution, I don't consider that I am paying for a component. I regard that as free. What I am paying for is the support I get and to be a member of a community of developers all helping one another.
That is why I not only own eShop, but Membership Pro, eDocman, Joomdonation and the eShop importer. These guys are simply great to deal with on virtually all occasions.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Ric

Eder Noriega wrote: Thanks Ric. Thank you very much. I have written to Joomdonation, but I have not received an answer yet. I want to know if Eshop can build a catalog without the shopping cart. In Virtuemart I can disable the shopping cart and leave only the catalog. I asked the matter two days ago and I do not receive a reply.
Hello Eder,
I answered you. You can turn on the Catalog mode in the configuration of EShop easily. Please read about it here: eshopdocs.joomservices.com/general-tips/enable-catalog-mode
Hope that this is useful.

I removed the comment about $ per letter using Regular Labs Rereplacer only to find the calculations were hard coded into to templates.
As I wanted somewhere for people to put the names they wanted on their T Shirts, I created a form for the names and inserted it into the template using Modules anywhere. It all works but is far from ideal.
The shop is now live, so if anyone wants to explore my solution they can. I am sure there are probably better ways of doing this solution, it's probably more of a workaround.
