EDocman 4.0 Released — Smarter Document Management for Joomla

We are happy to announce the release of EDocman 4.0, a major update focused on better document lifecycle management, stronger PDF protection, improved frontend layouts, and better compatibility with modern Joomla websites.

Document Health
EDocman 4.0 introduces Document Health, giving administrators a clearer way to monitor the status of documents.

Administrators can quickly identify documents that are healthy, expiring soon, expired, stale, or have no expiry date. This makes document maintenance easier, especially for websites with many files.
Benefit: Better visibility, easier maintenance, and reduced risk of outdated documents staying unnoticed.


Download Availability
A major improvement in this version is Download Availability.
With the new Download Available Until field, administrators can control when a file can still be downloaded, separately from the document visibility status.
This means a document can remain visible on the website for reference, while the actual download button can be hidden or disabled after a selected date.

Document visibility and download availability are now managed separately.
 

Benefit: More flexible control over documents that should remain visible but no longer downloadable.

PDF Watermark Protection
EDocman 4.0 adds improved PDF watermark features, including:

• Watermark for downloaded PDF files
• Watermark overlay in the PDF viewer

This helps protect PDF documents, display ownership or copyright information, and reduce unauthorized redistribution.
Benefit: Better PDF protection for internal files, paid documents, reports, training materials, and restricted resources.

Joomla Mail Templates Integration
EDocman 4.0 supports Joomla Mail Templates, introduced in Joomla 5.2.
This allows site administrators to customize EDocman email messages directly from the Joomla administrator area without editing code.
Benefit: Easier email customization, better branding, and simpler multilingual management.

Frontend Layout Improvements
This release also improves frontend layouts and button display options.
Administrators now have more flexibility when configuring frontend button styles in the Default and Table layouts. Modal login and document gallery layouts have also been refined for a better user experience.
Benefit: Cleaner layouts and easier integration with Joomla templates.

Compatibility and Stability Improvements
EDocman 4.0 includes several technical improvements, including:
