Hello,

I would like to report an issue that appears to be a bug in EDocman 3.1.
Under Configuration > View Document Configuration, there is a Document viewing method option where you can choose either Edocman Document Viewer or Browser Document Handler.

However, when using Edocman Document Viewer, Japanese-language PDFs cannot be displayed correctly—the text area appears blank.
When using Browser Document Handler, Japanese PDFs display normally, but the document is always opened in a new window regardless of the Viewer Display Mode setting.

I also tested Google Viewer, but it seems unable to display Japanese PDFs as well.

As a result, at the moment I can only use Browser Document Handler, which always opens documents in a new window.

Thanks

Hi,
When you view the PDF content directly in your browser, the fonts are supported by your computer’s system. However, when viewing through PDF Viewer or Google Viewer, certain characters may not display correctly. I suspect there may be an underlying reason for this issue that I am not aware of at this time.
As you know, Google Viewer is a tool provided by Google. If it cannot display certain content, the problem is usually related to the content itself, rather than Google’s viewer. In such cases, if Google Viewer is unable to render the characters, it is also difficult for the Edocman PDF viewer tool to display them properly.
Thanks
Dam

Hi,

Thank you for your explanation.
I understand that the issue with Google Viewer failing to display Japanese characters is outside the control of EDocman, and I agree that this part is likely caused by the limitations of Google’s tool.

However, my main concern is not only about Google Viewer.
There is another issue that appears to be related to EDocman itself:

Even when using Browser Document Handler, the PDF always opens in a new window, regardless of the “Viewer Display Mode” setting. This behavior is different from the EDocman Viewer mode, which displays documents inside a modal.

Since the browser’s native PDF viewer can display Japanese PDFs correctly, it would be extremely helpful if Browser Document Handler could also support modal display, instead of forcing a new window.

This improvement would solve the display problem (because the native viewer works) and provide a consistent user experience, without relying on Google Viewer.

Therefore, I would appreciate it if you could consider supporting modal display for Browser Document Handler.

Thanks!

Hi,
When you enable the Browser Document Handler option, the PDF file is downloaded to your computer and opened directly from your browser's "Downloads" folder. At this point, Edocman is no longer involved in the process.
This is why the file displays correctly if your computer supports the fonts and content. However, online PDF viewers may not support or display certain content properly, which can lead to issues in viewing the document.
Thanks
Dam

Hi Dam,

Thank you for your detailed explanations.
While building a new website and reviewing the fresh installation of EDocman, I noticed the issues I reported earlier. I shared them mainly because I thought the information might be useful for future development of EDocman.

The modal display used in the EDocman Viewer looked appealing at first, but considering the nature of the website I am currently developing, I now think that opening PDFs in a separate window is actually more appropriate from a usability standpoint.

If I find any other behavior that seems like a bug, I will report it again.
Thank you for taking the time to explain everything so clearly.

Thanks
