Akeeba Backup size after Edocman update was created by bestcons
Hi,
After the Edocman update from 2.2 to 3.0 I noticed that the size of the Akeeba Backup reduced from 10.05 GB to 7.93 GB.
Could this be caused by the update?
Thank you.

No, i think the plugin: Edocman Auto Clean already removes temporary files in folder: root -> edocmanviewer to reduce total size of your site
Thanks

I installed the large backup on my test website. Found in edocmanviewer 2.3 GB of documents! Making a backup on this website results in the same large size.
However updating just Edocman reduces the backup size and creates an empty edocmanviewer file. As you suggest caused by Edocman Auto Clean.
So my question is: What triggers Edocman Auto Clean as I never before had a comparable experience.

Hi,
I would like to clarify how the edocmanviewer folder is used. When you view the content of a document, the system copies that file into the "edocmanviewer" folder to enable our PDF display tool. This tool requires direct access to PDF files, which is not possible if they remain in the main Edocman Documents folder due to security restrictions that prevent direct access.
To protect your documents, any file placed in "edocmanviewer" is given an encrypted name, making it difficult to access or download the file directly. However, each time a document is viewed, a new encrypted copy may be created, resulting in multiple versions of the same file with different names.
To prevent the storage size from increasing unnecessarily, we have developed the Edocman Auto Clean plugin. When this plugin is enabled, it automatically deletes files in the "edocmanviewer" folder after a certain period, freeing up disk space.
Previously, administrators needed to manually publish this plugin to activate the auto-clean feature. However, we noticed that many customers were unaware of this option. Therefore, starting from the latest version, we decided to enable the plugin automatically during installation.
This is the reason why your site’s backup size decreased unexpectedly—the Edocman Auto Clean plugin is now active by default, helping manage your storage more efficiently.
Thanks
