Error - Call to undefined function

I upgraded to v2 about a month ago and when I went to upload a new document today I get the following error:

The PDF Indexer feature of Edocman requires the popen function to be enabled on your server. To resolve this issue, you have two options:
1. Contact your hosting administrator and ask them to enable the popen function for your hosting environment.
2. Go to the plugin: Edocman - Indexer and disable the parameter: Use POPEN function.
