Multi column document list with bulk download tick box was created by Nigel Kendrick
Is there a way to display a multi-column list of documents from a category and its sub categories, showing the Category+subcategory name, document name and details and a tick box to add the document to the mass download list? We have divided several training modules into sub-topics and I want users to be able to select a module, see all the documents in all the sub-topics and download the whole lot from that view rather than having to go into every sub-topic separately.
The closest I can find is to use the eDocman Documents module, which gives a list of documents, but no multi-select download options on the page. Also, despite having selected 'Show Category' in the module's config, this is not appearing on the page - see images.
Thanks

Hi Nigel,
Currently, the multi-select download feature is not available for the Edocman Documents module. This functionality is only supported within the layouts of Edocman itself.
If you have any further questions or need assistance, please feel free to let us know.
Best regards,
Dam

Hi Dam,
Thanls for the quick reply, as ever.
Should the category be showing against the documents on the above page display since it's turned on in the module settings?

Hi Nigel,
Thank you for your question.
I’m not entirely sure I understand your request. Are you referring to not wanting the sub-categories to be displayed at the top of a category page? If that’s the case, please confirm so I can assist you further.
Looking forward to your clarification.

Hi Nigel,
Currently, there is no configuration available to display categories and sub-categories in the Documents module. The "Show category" option does not include this functionality at the moment.
Thanks

Thanks Dam, is there any way I can create a button that will generare a bulk downlaod for an entire set of documents in a category and its child categories - eg: a 1-click downlaod for everything under 'ECT'?

Hi Nigel,
That does sound like a useful feature, but honestly, it’s quite a challenging idea to implement. To be frank, I haven’t considered adding such functionality before.
Thanks
Dam

Thanks - I'll put it in the Wish List forum.
At the moment, I can't see an easy way of allowing users to download all the docs in a top category in one go. The best I can work out is to put all the docs in a second category called 'ALLECTDOCS' and have a page display for that - but the ordering gets a bit messy and users will then have to select each document individually to add it to the bulk download list.
We could create a ZIP of all docs, but that creates an issue with version control when docs are updated because we'll have to re-make the ZIP file.
Overall, though the extension is doing about 95% of what we need, so thanks for all your support.

Hi Nigel,
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. You’re absolutely right—when the documents in a category are updated, we would need to recreate the ZIP file, which could impact the server’s CPU performance and storage capacity.
We really appreciate your input, and we’ll take your suggestion into account as we continue to discuss and explore potential solutions for this issue.
If you have any further ideas or feedback, please don’t hesitate to share them.
Thanks
Dam
