Need help formatting columns

I'm struggling with the formatting when showing documents within a category.

On my test server, I've upgraded Edocman from v1.9.1 to 1.25.9

You can see the 2 column formatting that I am trying to replicate at www.icetrikes.co/support/owners-manual/owners-assembly (this is v1.9.1)


On my test website, the document list is displayed as a single column, like this:


I have tried a number of different layout settings and haven't been able to reproduce the original 2 column layout.   The settings I've been trying are:
CONFIGURATION SETTINGS

CATEGORY SETTINGS

We are on Joomla 3.9.25 and PHP 7.4.33 (which is the reason why I am updating the site)

It feels like I'm missing something fairly basic.  Can anybody help?
