Hi Alison,
Sorry for this issue, please removing folder: root -> administrator -> components -> com_edocman -> override to solve this problem. We are developing function to allow developers to override core functions of Edocman.Unfortunately, it's not completed. Hope it will be done soon.

And please click on My Downloads at the top and re-download and install latest Edocman version, there are some minor issues are updated in that latest too.

I have done that, the route the override is actually
root -> administrator -> components -> com_edocman -> model -> overrride
I removed that and installed the latest upadate and it is now working.

If you upgrade latest Edocman version, the issue won't happen again
