issue with document list display

Several version updates back this issue started, but I guess it did not bother me enough to ask the question.  I have several categories that show only a few documents and the view is spread out so the user has to scroll down to view the list.  The categories with larger number of documents show the list close together.  Below are the examples on the live website.

Is there a configuration setting that I need to change?

Hi Lowell,
Actually, in default layout of Documents list, we have Grid option which can be used to show documents in grid view, thus, user won't need to scroll down the screen too much to see all documents. But in your site, i don't know why the Grid option isn't show. You can submit ticket on category: Edocman and provide your site url with super admin account, i will figure the problem for you.
