Login to download documents

I have two issues.
1. When using the pop up box PLEASE LOGIN TO DOWNLOAD DOCUMENT, if the username is in the format of the user's email address the login fails with a login failure message. It is allowed by Joomla login.

2. If a user successfully logs in but is not in a user group that permits download, there is no indication to the user of what has happened. They have no download button and no indication of what to do next.

Either there should be message stating successful login but that this user is not permitted to download, or if the download button is shown, clicking on it will generate a similar message that the user needs to obtain a current Membership Pro subscription.
