Thanks for your help. SQL fixup did the trick, all good now.
I still think there is a bug moving docs from private to public category? - they don't seem to renounce the rights of old category and inherit the rights of new category instead?

Hi,
The ACL inheritance feature allows documents to be inherited ACL permissions of main category (Edit, Delete, Download..etc).
You can re-build ACL for Edocman categories and documents by running 2 below links:
http://your_domain/administrator/index.php?option=com_edocman&task=rebuild_categories
and
http://your_domain/administrator/index.php?option=com_edocman&task=rebuild_documents
Then, ACL of categories and documents will be rebuilt based on your setting.
