Breadcrumb issue using edocman category plugin

I have a site using the edocman category plugin. If you have this in a piece of content and that piece of content is shown in a category blog layout, the breadcrumbs module gets triggered by edocman and you end up with a bizarre breadcrumb tree.

I've isolated this to the plugin, as when I added readmore breaks into the content, hiding the category plugin call, the breadcrumb tree returned to normal.
