Why "Import" files? was created by Donald White
I have used Akeeba Release System to manage document downloads and I'm moving to use EDocman, instead. What confuses me is the, since:
If I use Bulk Import or the plugin, do I create duplicate document files?
Thanks for your assistance - I read the documentation (good job, by the way!) but this is not apparently addressed.
Cheers,
Don White
- All documents are already loaded in subfolders of image/downloads in Joomla and
- I set images/downloads as the absolute path for EDocman to use
- I configured Categories and Subcategories to use the files in the corresponding subfolders within images/downloads

Hi Donald,
Edocman has the plugin call Edocman - auto import. With this plugin, you can use it to import existing documents in specific directories into Edocman component.
So, you need to do below steps
1. Setup Documents Path at Configuration page Edocman. In your case is ..../images/downloads
2. Turn on Configure option: Use Herachical Folder Structure
3. Create Edocman Categories and setup Path for those categories, for example /categories1, /categories2
4. Go to Plugin, filter "Plugin Manager: Edocman - Import", select each Category and wait for one hour (per category), the system will import documents in existing directories into Edocman system.
Thanks
Dam

Thank you, Dam. Using the plugin is good. I wonder if, by using it, I create duplicate files stored in the EDOCMAN folder on the server or not?
Thank you, again!

It's a simple question: Will the use of the Edocman - import plugin:
Thank you.
- Copy the current files in images/downloads and move the copies into category folders created in EDOCMAN or
- Move the files physically from images/downloads into categry folders in EDOCMAN or
- Does the plugin point the categories created in EDOCMAN to the files located in image/download?
Thank you.

Hi Donald,
I will have real example for you, i hope it will clear to you.
In the folder images > downloads. You have the files in below paths
images > downloads > 1.pdf
images > downloads > cat1 > 2.pdf
images > downloads > cat2 > 3.pdf
images > downloads > cat1 > cat3 > 4.pdf
and you want to import those documents into Edocman extension.
So, here are solution
1. Setup Document path for Edocman is .... images/downloads
2. Turn on Configure option: Use Herachical Folder Structure in Configuration page
3. Create category
- First cat and leave field "path" is empty
- Second cat and enter value for field "path" is "cat1"
- Third cat and enter value for field "path" is cat2
- Fourth cat and enter value for field "path" is "cat1/cat3"
4. Go to plugin Edocman > Auto import
- First time, do not select First cat and save
- After one hour, go to select Second cat and save
....
Do the same for all categories.
I hope the solution is ok for you.
Thanks
Dam
