PDF docs won't upload

I'm new to Joomla and Edocman but was making some good progress till I ran into this snag.

I am trying to upload some PDF documents to our Joomla site using Edocman; however, it won't upload the files. They are PDF format but each time I try it just takes the title (not the file) and posts online with a 25 Byte file that says application/octet-stream. If I try to download it, it says "index". That's it. The icon that is supposed to show the PDF symbol is blank. Strangely enough, I was able to upload 10-15 other PDF files before this, all without a glitch.
