Category and Document Sort Order was created by Jim Neal
Under Configuration > Themes > Default Sort applies to BOTH Categories AND Documents. Why? Why would you do that? I always want Categories sorted in alphabetical order and the default order for Documents sorted by date in DESC. I was able to do this in the past. How to correct this?
Also, implementing this feature should be a top priority as it relates to drag and drop.

Hi Jim
That default sort only affect documents, not categories. Categories are ordered by ordering, not by default sort config option

For Drag and Drop sorting, we will start working on it from next release. We could not work on it before because we have to keep the development for both Joomla 2.5 and 3.x.
Now, I think we can stop adding new features for Joomla 2.5 and focus the development for Joomla 3.x, so we can start working on drag and drop sorting

May be it was related to this... When I installed update version 1.6.6, I got this message: JInstaller: :Install: Can't find XML setup file, but it said installation was successful. (???)
After reading your reply above, I reinstalled version 1.6.6 again using the tmp directory on my live site server and didn't see the XML message. Seems to be working fine now.
Thanks

I currently have only 7 categories. However, I find it impossible to be able to tell which subcategory is nested under which category. It is exceptionally frustrating. If I can't tell what belongs where, my customer won't be able to tell either. This is a huge usability issue.

It is from backend or frontend ? If it is frontend, Yes, I can confirm this issue and will address it very soon (just noticed it recently), please give me few days to work on it and get it sorted

i have the same problem. its from backend. I just purchased EDocman, and start lunching. Mostly, its what I need for my project. Unfortunately, the sorting order for categories and sub-categories is not clear, and can't see which sub-category belong to which category.
I hope you can keep Hierarchical order in the categories list (backend).

I have downloaded the package now and reinstalled eDocman. The hierarchical order is still not available.
When is the new package with this urgent Feature available?
