Login before download?

I want people to login before downloading a doc, I understand how to do this part.
so at the document level, they would be prompted to either register or login. This is where I'm having a hard time. How do I prompt them to login with edocman and
If they register they need to be automatically put into that user group. Is there a way to do this?

Unfortunately, there is no way to do that with EDocman. The extension use Joomla core ACL system to handle access permission. So if you setup the system so that only logged in users can download the documents, the Downloads button will be hided until they logged in (there is no way to prompt users to login).

So in this case, I think the simplest solution is that you add a message into description of the document, something like "To download this document, please login".
