With the rapid rise of AI Agents (Claude, Cursor, Antigravity) and the
Model Context Protocol (MCP), managing CMS extensions via AI is becoming the new standard.We would love to see
Native Web Services API support for EDocman (leveraging Joomla’s core Web Services framework):Why This is Needed:
- Manual UI is Time-Consuming: Batch managing hundreds of documents, categories, and permissions in the Joomla admin takes hours.
- Direct SQL is Risky: Modifying the database directly bypasses EDocman’s logic and risks corrupting Joomla assets or orphan records.
- AI-Assisted Operations: A clean REST API allows webmasters to connect an MCP Server to EDocman, enabling AI to safely audit files, batch-update categories, and inspect broken links using natural language.
Core Requests:
- Standard REST Endpoints: CRUD for Documents & Categories via "
Code:
/api/index.php/v1/edocman/...
" using Joomla API Tokens.
- Safe Operations: API-level protection to manage database records safely without accidental physical file deletion.
- Health / Audit Endpoints: Query missing associations, orphaned assets, or outdated documents.
This would make EDocman the most modern, AI-ready document management component in the Joomla ecosystem!
