Ask for a users age before purchase

Hi,

I would like to ask for the "users age" before purchasing items. I sell information products, and the demographics is very important. Right now I have information I dont need, like street address, but I dont find the way to add an "age" field in the form.

if it is just a requirement to be 18 or older add it to the terms of service..

if you are wanting to collect data.. put a form in front of the purchase and ask all the questions you like..


i understand what you are saying you want custom field.. for age..

you might could rename one of the default fields to age.. if thats all you need.. but if you are wanting more info place a custom form infront of the purchase option so they fill the form out then continue the purchase.

Yes, Jumbo is right. Right now, Documents Seller doesn't support custom fields, so basically, there are two solutions :

1. If you don't use all of the "core fields", for example, you can change title of this field to "Enter your age" for example, and users will be able to enter the age during the purchase .

2. If you need more than that, you will need to customize the extension to meet your need .

I think replacing one of the "core fileds" would be the perfect solution for me.

I am new to Joomla and Web design. Could you please tell me how to replace a core filed in DMS? I would appreciate it a lot!

easy way is to just change the language file.. en-GB.com_dms.ini this file is located at /public_html/language/en-GB/en-GB.com_dms.ini


look for line 35

DMS_ADDRESS2=Address2 ........... change to

DMS_ADDRESS2=AGE


now in dms config page under fields select require Address2 ... check the box to show and require

also require and show the field Address2 for free download form fields..

now you have age ..to view Data entry of age ..view your orders in the config.. look under address2 this will be the age they enter..

Just one comment, to change the text, you can edit the language file as you suggested. The other simpler way is that you go to Documents Seller -> Transation, find and change the text to what you want .
