USPS shipping two items

I am looking for a shipping solution and hoping to use USPS - I have not purchased it yet.

As of now, I use Item Shipping which charges customers $5 for each item. If they buy two items, the shipping charge is once for each item ($5 x 2).

Can the USPS (or other shipping option) combine the package into one shipping cost that is less than the two individual items shipped separately?

Does this use weight, size, both?

1. USPS shipping based on total weight of products in the cart and size that you entered at the configuration of plugin to calculate shipping cost.

2. If you use Item Shipping and don't want to have duplicate shipping cost for the same items, then I can help you to fix.

That fix would be great. I'd like to get Item Shipping working that way for now and possibly use USPS in the future.
