UPS plugin issue was created by Mitch Karn
I'm having an issue with the ups plugin. There are entries for the length, width and height. I'm pretty sure they are causing very high rates for shipping via ups. Even shipping locally results in quotes for very high rates. I'm not sure if it is because of those settings or not.
I would think it should be taking the products dimensions to calculate the shipping rate.
Thanks
Mitch

Hello Mitch,
This our UPS shipping plugin does not calculate the length, width, height of products in the cart. It only supports you to enter an estimate length, width, height at the configuration of plugin, then the system will calculate the shipping cost based on these config values.
Sincerely, Giang

Giang,
With all due respect, that doesn't make any sense. How would you get accurate shipping totals for your products unless everything you sell is the same size? The only way the plugin would be useful then is if everything is the same size and weight.
Doesn't the usps plugin use the product dimensions?

Giang,
I believe I may have fixed the issue. I entered a value of 1 for length, weight and height in the plugin configuration and it now seems to be calculating the correct shipping rate.
Thanks

Mitch, this is because UPS doesnt calculate based on box size. They use "weight based shipping" until the box you ship in is larger than this formula:
length plus girth [(2 x width) + (2 x height)] combined exceeds 130 inches, but does not exceed the maximum UPS size of 165 inches. Large Packages are subject to a minimum billable weight of 90 pounds in addition to the Large Package Surcharge.
So to get accurate results, as long as your shipping boxes will never be over the amount in the formula, just use 1" x 1" x 1" in the API.
