Front End Custom Fields View Only was created by Chris Jarvis
Hello all
Is it possible to show a custom field to a front end logged in user so that they can view the data we have on their Profile Data but them not change it?
We would really love the ability to have this as we hold data on members some of which they can update for us like Address and Phone Numbers, emails etc
But some data we want them to see but only view and not update like their qualifications and levels with us.
So we would like them to see what Level they have achieved with us but not be able to move themselves up to a higher one.
Could this be done please?
At the moment we have set these important fields to only be in a access level that we can see and change.
We would love it if a member can see this information but not change it themselves.
Hope this makes sense and it can be done
Thanks
Chris

Hello Chris
Unfortunately, at the moment, there is no way to configure the extension to have it works like that. Maybe something we can consider adding support for in Membership Pro version 3 if there are more customers request for it
Regards,
Tuan

That's no problem.
Maybe in the future, if more people see this as something they would like, you may come back to it as a possibility.
I have just found an interesting post by James Reilly again on the forum that might help me if I can get it to work.
Using CSS to hide fields found here www.joomdonation.com/forum/events-bookin...om-fields.html#99373
It talks about Office Use Only fields and display:none;
I'm thinking I could maybe adapt it to block pointer-events:none;
If I cant get to work
Thanks as always Tuan

The solution which James mentioned is used to hide the fields completely to users. Your requirement is show the field but disallow editing, so I guess something is different. I am not good at css, so I am not sure if the pointer-events:none; which you mentioned will solve the issue you are having

the pointer-events: none; works really well in preventing the visitor clicking in the box to overtype any data but you can get around it easily when using the tab key on the keyboard and simply overtype the data.
So I still can't use the custom fields as I would like.
We have created a Level custom field of Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3 for our members.
We want their Profile data to show this but obviously not editable as everyone could just make themselves Level 3 without attending a Level 3 Event with us - we use Event Bookings for our Events too
I really need something in OS Membership that is like when you create a Custom Field and can choose Yes/No values for things like Required or Published etc the same could be if you have another one called Read Only or Editable = Yes or No
This would be a brilliant addition for us as we also have expiry dates of not just Membership Periods but qualifications.
Our members often call the office and ask when their qualifications expire - we have created a custom field to record this and set the Access Level to Special but we want them to see this information when they login but can't because if we set the field to Public, the visitor could simply set the expiry date themselves.
The read-only or disable Yes/No would be a great feature
